MLB The Show 24: Last 3 Storylines in Negro Leagues Season 2

In MLB The Show's "The Negro Leagues Season 2," players get the opportunity to dive into the rich history of the Negro Leagues through the storyline mode.   This mode focuses on three legendary players: Rap Dixon, Bill Foster, and Andy Cooper. We're going to give you a detailed look at these three new players, and you can challenge them to classic moments in the upcoming games.

Rap Dixon

Rap Dixon was known for his exceptional batting and speed. The storyline explores his impact on the field, offering players a chance to emulate his dynamic playing style and understand his contributions to baseball history.

Early Career

Rap Dixon was a dynamic five-tool outfielder who excelled in the Negro Leagues from 1923 to 1938. He was renowned for his all-around skills, including hitting for power and average, speed on the basepaths, exceptional fielding, and a strong throwing arm. Dixon was a key contributor to several great Negro League teams and performed brilliantly on the big stage, including during a 1927 tour of Japan with the Philadelphia Royal Giants.

In 1949, the legendary Oscar Charleston named Dixon as his choice for center fielder on an all-time Negro League lineup, high praise from one of the greatest players in the game's history. Dixon's talent was further validated in 2018 when he was named to the Negro League Centennial Team, one of only 19 position players selected to honor the greatest Negro Leaguers of all time.

Challenges: Test your abilities with Dixon’s signature plays, focusing on his speed and power.

Bill Foster

Bill Foster was a dominant left-handed pitcher whose skills on the mound made him a standout in the Negro Leagues. This storyline offers an in-depth look at his techniques and achievements, providing players with insights into his mastery of the game.

Bill Foster was a dominant left-handed pitcher who starred for the Chicago American Giants in the 1920s and early 1930s. He was considered the best southpaw in the Negro Leagues during his prime. Foster had an exceptional 1926 season, winning 26 consecutive games (including league and non-league contests). In the playoffs that year, he won both games of a doubleheader against the Kansas City Monarchs to clinch the pennant for the American Giants.

Foster possessed a repertoire that included a blazing fastball, sharp curve, slider, and an outstanding change-up that baffled hitters. Hall of Famer Hilton Smith praised Foster's deceptive curveball, saying "Then when he got ready for you to swing, he'd start it 'round your waist and the catcher would catch it in the dirt. You couldn't hit it with anything." Foster was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1996 in recognition of his exceptional Negro League career.

Andy Cooper

Andy Cooper’s influence extended beyond his playing days as he became a successful manager. This storyline allows players to experience his dual impact on the field and in the dugout, showcasing his leadership and versatility.

Andy Cooper was a hard-throwing left-handed pitcher who toured Japan with the Philadelphia Royal Giants in 1927. During the team's exhibition games against Japanese opponents, Cooper's overpowering fastball and sinker overwhelmed the local batters, who struggled to even make contact against his electric stuff. Contemporary accounts marveled at the velocity gap between Cooper and the Japanese pitchers, describing his pitches as "incomparable" and noting that Fresno batters "could not even swing their bats" against his blazing heaters.

Cooper's dominance was a stark illustration of the talent disparity between the Negro Leaguers and their Japanese counterparts at that time. His performance left a lasting impression, with one observer recalling, "The velocity of their pitches was incomparable. No one from the Fresno team could hit Cooper's heavy, fast sinker."
